
Position Summary
Manage the planning discipline to ensure the necessary staff, policies and procedures, and resources are in place to ensure successful project delivery. Direct the development and implementation of firm technical and operating policies and procedures. Ensure that all professional employees within the discipline are properly trained and managed on projects. Assist Senior Project Managers in managing and coordinating the work of land use planning staff, placing particular emphasis on quality assurance and quality control. Assist top management in cultivating business development strategies and presentations. Supervise the utilization of all personnel, facilities and equipment assigned to the discipline.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Environmental Sciences, GIS, Mapping, Cartography, or Surveying required; Master's degree and or AICP certification desired. At least six (6) years' experience in the successful management of significant projects and technical resources. Expert knowledge of land use regulations and laws, and ability to locate and access resources. A demonstrated ability to understand and successfully manage the financial, marketing, human resources, and operations of a group of technical professionals. Thorough knowledge of specialization such as land use planning/zoning, transportation planning, environmental planning, urban design, housing, historic preservation or economic development, comprehensive planning, and master planning.
Skills/Abilities: Excellent client management skills and a demonstrated ability to lead a planning group including staff development, marketing, contract management and discipline budgeting required. Requires well-developed communication skills and the ability to foster and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with engineering team and clients. Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public and to communicate effectively and clearly.
